Mandate

The Economic Development Committee is governed by Chapter 75 of the City of Orillia Municipal Code.

Purpose

The EDC, as an advisory Committee of Council, shall conduct research and provide advice to Council with respect to local issues including the promotion and encouragement of industrial, commercial and residential development to increase assessment, employment, and social opportunities in the City of Orillia. 

 Areas of strategic focus shall include:

a)                Business Retention and Expansion

b)                Tourism

c)                Marketing and Communications

d)                Academic Advancement and Wellness

e)                Research, Development and Investment

Committee Members

The Economic Development Committee consists of nine members: the Mayor or his designate, three City Councillors, a representative of the Orillia District Chamber of Commerce, a representative of the Orillia and Area Community Futures Development Corporation (CDC), a representative of the Downtown Orillia Management Board and two citizen members.

Regular Meeting Date

The Economic Development Committee has not yet met in 2016 or determined the 2016 schedule, however, past practice has been that the Committee generally meets on the third Tuesday of each month, at 3:30 p.m. in the Orillia City Centre.  Please contact the Committee Secretary to confirm meeting dates and times.
