Curbside Battery Collection

On the week following the change to Daylight Savings Time (from November 7 to 12, 2016), residents can set out spent household batteries (AA, AAA, D, button batteries, etc.) in sealed clear plastic bags (such as a Ziploc bag) and place it on top of your recycling box for paper. They will be picked up on your regular collection day and sent for recycling. Note that there is no collection on Remembrance Day (Friday, November 11th) so Friday's collection will be undertaken on Saturday, November 12th. Residents are encouraged to replace batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms when you change your clocks back on Sunday, November 6th. Please note the curbside battery collection program does not include businesses and apartments that set out large roll-out carts.

Call the City's Waste Diversion site at 705-325-3522 if you have any questions.

The City of Orillia is determined to keep as many items as possible out of its Waste Diversion Site (landfill). For this reason, the City decided to gradually introduce a Garbage Tag Program, while increasing its efforts to help people recycle. In addition to an extensive Blue Box Recycling Program (called recycling box in Orillia), the City also has a Green Bin program for compostable materials.

Starting September 21, 2015, garbage (and diaper) collection moved to every other week. Recycling and green bin/yard waste are still collected weekly. Collection is delayed by one day after a statutory holiday as noted in the below Collection Calendar.

Do you want to know when your garbage collection day is?  Pingstreet is a free mobile app for mobile devices and provides Orillia residents with real-time access to a calendar showing when your garbage, recycling, green bin and yard waste curbside pick-up will occur. It even accounts for delayed collection during weeks with statutory holidays. The optional "remind me" feature will ensure you never miss another garbage day!
