Kids on edge of outdoor ice rink

The City of Orillia operates eight free outdoor skating rinks throughout the city that are open from December through March, depending upon the weather.

Development is subject to frost in the ground, cold weather and significant snowfall to form a base from which staff can flood.

Hockey games are prohibited on outdoor rinks when they are occupied by pleasure skaters. Skaters should wear helmets at all times.

Staff constantly monitor the weather conditions and when they are favourable, they try to flood the outdoor rinks. Keep checking back here for up-to-date conditions of the rinks.

HELP THE OUTDOOR RINKS BY STAYING OFF THEM WHILE THEY ARE CLOSED.

Due to the recent, mild temperatures, the bases of most of the rinks are not solid. Some have asphalt and grass exposed in areas. This is making them VERY dangerous - please stay off.  Even if the temperatures drop in the next day or so, they will be bumpy and will still have bare spots until they have several floods to help patch holes and even out surfaces.

Please note staff will be assessing them daily to see if the outdoor rinks can be reopened and will provide updates when available.  The Public Works Department maintains the rinks and questions can be addressed by contacting them at 705-326-4585.
