City of Orillia Warning Residents of By-law Officer Impersonation Scam

For immediate release (July 18, 2025) – The City of Orillia is alerting residents to a potential scam involving an individual falsely claiming to be a City By-law Officer and attempting to collect payment directly from a resident at their home.
The City was recently made aware of a concerning incident where a resident was approached at their home by someone posing as a By-law Officer and was asked to provide payment on the spot for an alleged violation related to tall grass and weeds.

Orillia to open cooling centres July 15 to 17 due to heat warning

For immediate release (July 15, 2025) – Due to the heat warning in place, the City of Orillia will open air-conditioned cooling and hydration centres for public use from July 15 to 17, 2025. The City encourages anyone – especially those susceptible to extreme heat – to make use of the centres. The cooling centres will remain open until the heat warning is lifted.

For immediate release (July 14, 2025) – On July 11, 2025, the City of Orillia reacquired 150 Front Street South. The property is designated as being of cultural heritage and interest. The property was reacquired through the exercise of an option to purchase, which the City reserved on the sale of the property in 2019.

For immediate release (July 4, 2025) – Due to the heat warning in place, the City of Orillia will open air-conditioned cooling and hydration centres for public use on July 5 and 6, 2025. The City encourages anyone – especially those susceptible to extreme heat – to make use of the centres. The cooling centres will remain open until the heat warning is lifted.
