Energy efficiency pays off for City of Orillia fire station project

For immediate release (April 22, 2016) – Join Mayor Steve Clarke and Orillia Fire Chief Ralph Dominelli on April 26 as they accept a $7,591 incentive cheque from the High Performance New Construction Program for the Orillia Fire Station #1 project.

Have your say on whether backyard hens (chickens) should be allowed to roost in backyards throughout the City of Orillia.
Members of the public are invited to attend a public open house to provide input on whether backyard hens should be permitted within City limits for the purpose of household egg production. The open house will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Orillia City Centre, 50 Andrew St. S.

Tenant charged after fire in Orillia rental unit

A tenant of 339 St. Jean St. in Orillia is facing smoke alarm related charges under the Ontario Fire Code after the tenant disabled their apartment’s smoke alarm.
“Disabling a smoke alarm can have severe consequences. Smoke alarms give occupants the early warning needed to safely evacuate a building when fire conditions exist. Correctly installed and maintained smoke alarms save lives,” said Jeff Kirk, Orillia Deputy Fire Chief.

Public invited to review Orillia’s draft waste minimization plan

The City of Orillia’s draft five-year Waste Minimization Plan is now available for a two-week public review period.
The draft plan evaluates methods to reduce waste disposal at the Orillia Waste Diversion Site (landfill) and ways to improve diversion and recycling programs. Based on the public input received so far through two public forums held in March and a survey, a draft plan was developed and is now posted on the City’s website for public review.
