Two Orillia property owners plead guilty to fire-related offences

Two Orillia property owners have been convicted of offences in the Ontario Court of Justice. The owner of the property at 95 Barrie Rd. pled guilty to failing to prepare a written record of a test as required by the Ontario Fire Code. In a separate incident, the owner of the property at 409 East St. pled guilty to charges related to open air burning as required by the Orillia Municipal Code 387.

Hit Orillia’s roads and trails with Mayor Steve Clarke on Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. for the Mayor’s Bike and Hike. Formerly called the Orillia Bicycle Rally, this event, organized by the City of Orillia’s Active Transportation Committee, is now in its eighth year.

Orillia welcomes voyageurs on Champlain’s 400th anniversary

Join the City of Orillia on Sept. 11 as we welcome the Brûlé-Wendats Expedition who are visiting the area to mark the 400th anniversary of the 1615 expedition through the Narrows of Lake Couchiching.

City moving to every other week garbage collection on Sept. 21

The City of Orillia is moving to every other week garbage collection on Sept. 21, 2015. Recycling, green bin and yard waste will still be collected weekly.
“Moving to every other week garbage is an exciting change for the City of Orillia, but we also understand it may be a big change for your family,” said Mayor Steve Clarke. “By using the resources available to divert waste from landfill, we are building a cleaner, greener city together.”

Moose Beach posting lifted

As per the direction of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, the posting of Moose Beach, located at J.B. Tudhope Memorial Park, has been lifted.
Moose Beach was posted on Aug. 19, 2015, due to higher than normal bacteria count.
All three swimming areas in Orillia are now open for swimming. This includes Moose Beach, Portage Bay, and Couchiching Beach, located at Couchiching Beach Park.
