Expanding programs for older adults in the community

Orillia to open cooling centres August 9th due to heat warning

For immediate release (August 8, 2025) – Due to the heat warning in place, the City of Orillia will open air-conditioned cooling and hydration centres for public use beginning August 9, 2025. The City encourages anyone – especially those susceptible to extreme heat – to make use of the centres. The cooling centres will remain open until the heat warning is lifted.
The following public places have been identified as cooling and hydration centres:

Civic Holiday Schedule 2025

City of Orillia administrative offices are closed on Monday, Aug. 4, 2025 for the Civic Holiday. This includes:
- Orillia City Centre (50 Andrew St. S.)
- Municipal Operations Centre (20 James St. W.)
- Wastewater Treatment Centre (40 Kitchener St.)
- Water Filtration Plant (200 Bay St.)
- Orillia Waste Diversion Site (100 Kitchener St.)
Hours of operation for other City facilities/services include:
- Orillia Transit/OWLS: No service on Monday, Aug. 4.
- Orillia Recreation Centre (255 West St. S.): Open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Transit Route Modification Effective August 15, 2025

Effective August 15, 2025, as part of a trial running until April 30, 2026, two Orillia Transit Routes will be servicing Lakehead University during all operational hours.
As a result, three transit stops will be out of service for the duration of the trial. The stops that will not be serviced can be found on the map.

Orillia Launches Second All-Day Transit Stop at Lakehead University as Part of Route Trial

For immediate release (July 25, 2025) – The City of Orillia is enhancing transit service to better meet the needs of the community. Beginning Aug. 15, 2025, Orillia Transit will launch a trial of an all-day transit stop at Lakehead University on the West Ridge via Old Barrie Road Route. The trial will run until April 30, 2026.
