City of Orillia announces Per Door Grant Program funding for new affordable housing project

For immediate release (Feb. 9, 2026) – The City of Orillia is pleased to announce that Sionito Community Development Corporation has been approved for $1,042,075 in funding through the City’s Per Door Grant Program to support 115 new affordable rental housing units at 19 Coldwater St. The units are designed to provide independent housing in a supportive setting, with a particular focus on seniors.

Effective Monday February 9, 2026, the transit shelter located at 1095 Mississaga St W will be removed due to safety concerns. This shelter will be replaced in 2026 as part of the City's annual shelter program.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued an extreme cold warning as colder conditions will begin this evening into the weekend, with wind chills near -30°C to -35°C

If you need a warm place to go this weekend, the following temporary warming centres are available:

• Orillia Public Library (36 Mississaga St. W.): See the hours of operation
• Orillia Recreation Centre (255 West St. S.): 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
