Pitch-In Week kicks off Easter weekend

Join the City of Orillia and local partners as we cleanup litter throughout the community this coming week.
Pitch-In Week, a national campaign to cleanup the environment, runs from April 19-26. Throughout the week, church groups, schools, businesses, neighbourhood and community organizations will scour the City to cleanup garbage that has accumulated over the winter.

Downtown bridal boutique married to personal touch

Diane Halfpenny opened the doors to let the sun and warmth flood her new shop while she worked at getting Say Yes Bridal Gallery ready for its downtown debut. And even though the store was not yet open, people began popping in.
“I still remember the weekend of the car show, we had people coming in,” she said with a smile. “We actually sold dresses before we opened in September (of 2012).”
It was a good omen for the entrepreneur, who had done her homework before deciding to open the bridal salon.

A 15-year-old Orillia woman is being presented a certificate of bravery for her actions that helped save a man who went through the ice on his snowmobile on March 23, 2014.
Mayor Angelo Orsi and Orillia Fire Chief Ralph Dominelli will present the certificate to Jenna Roberts at Council on Monday April 14.

Orillia Home Hardware Building Centre has won the Walter J. Hachborn Store of the Year Award for 2013. The award pays tribute to the top Home Hardware store, as selected from close to 1,100 stores across Canada.
The award is given to the store with the highest standards in retailing, merchandising, staff performance, and overall quality and service. Owned by John Locke and Bill Ecklund, Orillia is the second store to receive the honour twice, having also won in 2011.
