Reminder to Taxpayers

The 2nd instalment of the 2014 Regular Tax Bill is due and payable October 15, 2014.
Ratepayers are reminded that penalty is added to all past due instalments or part thereof as follows:
1 ¼% added on the first working day following the due date and
1 ¼% per month thereafter beginning November 1, 2014.
Failure to receive the tax bill does not relieve the property owner from payment of taxes or liability for penalty for late payment.

Advance Vote Days almost here

For immediate release (October 8, 2014) – The City of Orillia Election Team is busy preparing for the Advance Vote Days, which begin on Saturday, October 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Orillia City Centre.
“The municipal election falls on Monday, October 27 this year,” said Deputy Clerk, Janet Nyhof. “Not everybody can make that date so the Advance Vote Days are a great alternative, and a good way to beat the election day rush.”

Neywash Street Extension

The Environmental Assessment and design is underway for the extension of Neywash Street from Laclie Street to Centennial Drive. A Public Consultation Centre was held on October 2, 2014.

Owner and tenant face smoke alarm related charges

For immediate release (October 3, 2014) – The owner of a property on West Street North in Orillia has been charged under the Provincial Offences Act for failing to maintain a smoke alarm, and a tenant at the same address has been charged for intentionally disabling a smoke alarm.
“Building owners and tenants must both understand that it is their responsibility to ensure that working smoke alarms are installed, maintained and working where required,” said Orillia Fire Chief Ralph Dominelli. ...
