Orillia businesses can now apply for provincial economic development grants that will help businesses grow and create jobs, says Mayor Angelo Orsi.
Dr. Eric Hoskins, minister of economic development, trade and employment unveiled plans at Barrie City Hall Friday morning before many area mayors for an expansion of the boundaries of the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund (SODF) and the Eastern Ontario Development Fund (EODF) to include Simcoe County and Muskoka.

For immediate release (August 16, 2013) – As per the direction of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, the posting of Moose Beach, located at J.B. Tudhope Memorial Park, has been lifted.
Moose Beach was posted on Aug. 13, 2013, due to higher than normal bacteria count.
All three swimming areas in Orillia are now open for swimming. This includes Moose Beach and Portage Bay, located at J.B. Tudhope Memorial Park, and Couchiching Beach, located at Couchiching Beach Park.

Atherley Road reconstruction starting Aug. 19

The widening of Atherley Road from three lanes to four is starting Aug. 19, 2013, and will continue until Nov. 1, 2013.
During this time, Atherley Road between Gill Street and East Street, will be reduced to two lanes. Work has been underway adjacent to Atherley Road for a few weeks, but crews will now begin work on the road itself.
The road widening will help reduce traffic congestion and improve traffic flow, as well as improve the current deteriorated condition of the road surface.
