Dredging program begins at Port of Orillia

For immediate release (Dec. 12, 2024) – The City of Orillia has initiated a dredging program to address weed growth and sediment build-up within the Port of Orillia.
The project will restore historic lake depths, ensuring the Port can accommodate larger vessels and remain a key destination for boaters. General cash fares to see slight increase
For immediate release (Dec. 11, 2024) – The City of Orillia is pleased to announce the continuation of the free teen pass program, discounted seniors’ rate, and four free transit days.

Mitigating measures and provincial relief reduce levy increase to 2.5%
For immediate release (Dec. 10, 2024) – Orillia City Council approved a 2.5 per cent tax levy increase for 2025 at its special meeting on Dec. 9, 2024, reducing the 6.94 per cent levy increase originally anticipated through strategic measures and provincial relief provided for significant increases to policing costs.

Waterfront Dredging Project

To address weed growth and sediment build up within the Port of Orillia, dredging will take place over the next few months. The project was approved as part of the 2024 Budget process and has been awarded to Galcon Marine Ltd. The contractor has now mobilized on site and has launched a small tugboat and several barges into the water, which will be used to complete the dredging.
