Plans are underway to bring Costco to Orillia, said Dan Landry, the city’s manager of economic development.
Charter Construction and Mark Rich Homes are looking to build an approximately 155,447-square-foot retail store and gas bar on University Avenue in Orillia’s west end. The companies, which collectively own about 100 acres near Lakehead University, have requested a zoning bylaw amendment to allow for the construction. They are looking to rezone 18 acres.

Hwy. 12 upgrades studied in Orillia

A 10-kilometre stretch of Highway 12 linking Orillia with its rural neighbors is the focus of a project that aims to improve the busy traffic corridor.
A study underway on behalf of Ontario’s transportation ministry will identify potential safety improvements and needed upgrades along the portion of Highway 12 between Memorial Avenue and Horseshoe Valley Road.
