Owner charged: failing to maintain smoke alarm

The owner of the property at 329 Nottawasaga St., Orillia, has been charged under the Provincial Offences Act for failing to maintain a smoke alarm contravening the Ontario Fire Code. The charge comes as a result of the investigation into the fire by the Orillia Fire Department.

Maybe those "flushable" wipes aren't so flushable

The City is kindly asking residents to please refrain from flushing 'flushable' wipes. Did you know that even though baby wipes may indicate that they are flushable, they should not be put into our wastewater system? This also includes adult wipes, cleaning wipes (Clorox, Lysol, etc.) and toddler wipes. In fact, the only paper product that should be 'flushed' is toilet paper. It is the only paper that is designed to break down as it travels through the wastewater treatment process. All others...
Report regarding CAO resignation made public

City of Orillia Council voted in favour of releasing the confidential report discussed at the Feb. 21, 2014, closed session meeting of Council regarding the resignation of CAO Roman Martiuk.
In a report to Council Committee on Monday, Martiuk stated: “Although portions of the report relating to the employment status of the CAO are of a confidential nature, the majority of the report is either already in the public domain or not personnel related.”

Kick your used batteries to the curb Orillia

For one week only, from March 10 to 14, Orillia residents can set out their spent household batteries (AA, AAA, D, button batteries, etc.) in a sealed clear plastic bag, such as a Ziploc bag, and place it on top of their recycling box for paper to be collected on their regular collection day.
