Highly skilled tradespeople are a hot commodity in the Orillia area, local manufacturers say.
"We've got orders booked out until the end of the year right now," David Smith, operations manager with Oro Design and Manufacturing, said Thursday. “Our problem is we need to get more employees in to speed up how fast we’re building.”

Employers in Orillia created or regained more than 700 jobs in 2011, arguably a record year for the City.
The revival of TeleTech, a U.S. based call centre, accounted for the bulk of the job growth. TeleTech had been force to layoff two-thirds of its workforce in 2009 during the depths of the recession.
Over the past year TeleTech hired or rehired more than 600 workers. The company now has three major multi-year contracts with a total of 739 employees.

After a dip in ranking in 2010, Orillia is pulling itself back up the list of MoneySense magazine's best places to live.
The Sunshine City ranked 53 in 2011 for the quality of life, after the rank dropped from 42 to 59 the previous year.
