Council passes 2014 budget

Council approved a 2014 operating budget of $46.4 million, representing a 1.62 per cent tax increase for residents, at tonight’s special meeting of Council.
“I am very pleased that we were able to keep the 2014 tax increase below 2 per cent,” said Mayor Angelo Orsi. “Faced with budget expenditures beyond our control, City staff and Council worked diligently to find significant savings without compromising our level of service to residents.”

The 2014 Ontario Winter Games are coming to Orillia in less than three months and organizers are actively seeking volunteers and sponsors.

Nine local organizations received $13,481 in funding today as part of the City’s final installment of the 2013 grants program.
“Today’s grant presentation wraps up a year of the City supporting some of our community’s most dedicated organizations,” said Mayor Angelo Orsi. “Council’s commitment of $35,000 in 2013 grant funding has gone a long way to help organizations make a difference in our community.”
