Downtown Tomorrow CIP Community Workshop – Feb. 8, 2017

For immediate release (Feb. 6, 2017) – The City of Orillia is hosting a workshop to share details about grants available through the new Downtown Tomorrow Community Improvement Plan (Downtown Tomorrow CIP). The Downtown Tomorrow CIP Community Workshop will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017 in the Tudhope-McIntyre Boardroom at the Orillia City Centre. A presentation will begin at 6:15 p.m.

“The City’s new Downtown Tomorrow grant program was designed to stimulate development in Downtown Orillia,” said Mayor Steve Clarke. “Since announcing details about the program in the fall, the City’s Economic Development Office has already seen investors turning their minds to locations in the downtown area that they may not have otherwise considered.”

The program was approved by Council in June 2016 after a year of development and public consultation. In addition to a number of public workshops, feedback was solicited from several development experts within the community, including downtown business and building owners, property appraisers, planners, and community development professionals.

The first five incentive programs were launched on Jan. 1, 2017, and include grants to offset costs related to feasibility studies, application and permit fees, signs, façade improvements, building improvements, and the creation of residential units.

Community members are invited to attend the workshop to learn what types of projects are eligible for the new grants, learn about the application process, and ask questions about potential projects.

The Downtown Tomorrow CIP presentation will begin at 6:15 p.m. Registration is required and can be completed through the project webpage at

In addition to the Downtown Tomorrow CIP, the City of Orillia Economic Development Office is further promoting development in Downtown Orillia through a new business attraction campaign. Over the past few months staff have been busy developing a new investment webpage, promotional materials, a business attraction video, and are set to promote Orillia through an upcoming trade show in the Greater Toronto Area later this month.
