City of Orillia launches first mobile parking app with PassportParking®

Drivers can now pay and extend parking sessions remotely 

For immediate release (Aug. 1, 2018) – For the first time, residents and visitors in Downtown Orillia will have the option to pay for parking with a mobile application. The much-anticipated PassportParking® mobile application is officially available for free download and use in Orillia.

The PassportParking app will be available for about 200 on-street spaces and nearly 500 off-street metered spaces. To celebrate the launch, the first 400 users to use the promo code orillia will receive up to $2 off their parking session.

In addition to being able to pay for parking through the app, users are also able to:

  • Extend parking sessions remotely
  • Get reminders when a parking session is about to expire
  • Extend a parking session from your phone
  • Keep track of all parking history
  • Receive email receipts

“Orillia is fortunate to have a vibrant heritage downtown, rich in history and full of great places to shop, dine and explore. By introducing the PassportParking mobile app for downtown Orillia paid parking spaces, we are providing residents and visitors a simple, convenient way to pay for parking,” said Mayor Steve Clarke. “With an automatic reminder of time running short and the ability to top-up from wherever you are, no one should ever have to receive a ticket for an expired meter.”

“The launch of the PassportParking app is another way in which the City of Orillia is leveraging technology to provide better customer service to residents, businesses and visitors,” said Shawn Crawford, Manager of Legislative Services. “We encourage everyone to download the app and experience for themselves just how much easier it makes parking downtown.”

“We’re excited to partner with the City of Orillia and introduce this type of parking technology in the Sunshine City,” said Passport Regional Director Conor Kelly. “Whether people are enjoying the Streets Alive! exhibit or even enjoying a meal downtown, they can be at ease knowing they have the convenience of paying for parking at their fingertips.” 

“The PassportParking mobile app is a step in the right direction as the downtown and the City of Orillia implement technology to achieve a more customer friendly parking experience,” said Michael Knight, Chair of the Downtown Orillia Management Board. “Ninety per cent of our sales downtown involve debit or credit. Needing change to pay for parking is a deterrent to shop downtown simply because our customers are not carrying it.”

Drivers can download the free PassportParking app from the App Store and Google Play. Users can also manage their parking online at Passport is also the technology provider for mobile parking payments in Toronto.
