Branding Public Engagement Day set for September 4

Posted on Thursday August 21, 2014

For immediate release (August 21, 2014) – The public is encouraged to mark their calendars for the upcoming Public Engagement Day taking place on September 4, which will feature workshops and discussion around the City of Orillia Branding & Wayfinding Project.

“A significant amount of background information on our great City is being reviewed by our consultants,” said Mayor Angelo Orsi.  “We know it’s our people that make the community special, therefore gathering critical input from them, at our workshop, will help define what Orillia means to many.”

Stakeholders will be asked to “imagine Orillia” through several workshops aimed at gathering feedback from City Council and staff,  key community stakeholders and the public.

The workshops will be led by the project consultants, Argyle Communications, and will seek to better understand the gap between current perceptions of the City brand and how the community wishes to be perceived.

“While visual identity is an important piece of the branding process, understanding our unique strengths as a community and highlighting these through our marketing efforts is the overall goal of this exercise,” said Laura Thompson, Manager of Communications for the City of Orillia.

Attendees will also be invited to provide input on a new series of entrance and directional signs which will more efficiently direct visitor traffic into, and around, the community.  This information will be incorporated into a final implementation plan to be presented in early 2015.

The public stakeholder workshop will take place from 7-9 p.m. at the Orillia Public Library on September 4.  Registration is required, and can be done through a link on the project website.  More information, as well as an online survey, can also be found on the project website at
