City-Wide Exterior LED Light Fixture Replacement Project

City-wide in City-owned parking lots, alleyways, athletic fields, and parks

Project Description:

The City of Orillia is upgrading all exterior light fixtures to high-efficiency LED technology as part of its ongoing efforts to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. The retrofit includes lighting in City-owned parking lots, alleyways, athletic fields, and parks.

 

The new LED fixtures will improve lighting quality, reduce maintenance needs, and provide significant cost and energy savings for years to come.

Project Benefits:

  • Energy Efficiency: LED fixtures use up to 70% less energy than traditional lighting.
  • Environmental Impact: Reduces greenhouse gas emissions and supports the City’s sustainability goals.
  • Cost Savings: Lower maintenance and electricity costs mean long-term savings for the community.
  • Improved Lighting: Enhanced brightness and uniformity for safer, more inviting public spaces.

Budget:

  • $50,000 for the outdoor lighting assessment including photometrics and design work.
  • $1,200,000 for LED lighting replacements.

Timeline: 

The outdoor lighting assessment was completed in October 2024. A request for supplier qualifications was completed in November 2024.  The project was tendered from January until March 2025 and awarded to Guild Electric in March 2025. The installation is scheduled from November 2025 to March 2026.

Current Status: 

Construction begins in November 2025 and concludes in March 2026.
