Overview
In 2016, the City retained the services of Transit Consulting Network (TCN) to complete the Orillia Transit Operational Review. Transit Consulting Network gathered information to use for the basis of the new plan. They held meetings with four transit focus groups, had direct consultations with bus operators, received 402 responses from an on-line transit survey, received responses to an employer survey from 23 businesses and held a Public Open House. In May, 2017, Staff presented the final Review to Council.
The Operational Review of Orillia Transit Service indicates that Orillia Transit has performed exceptionally in terms of ridership growth, efficiency and effectiveness when compared to the peer group of 8 municipalities, all with a population below 40,000, and a similar service area and population density.
Some of the positive recommendations that City Staff are now investigating to implement are:
- the addition of a new West Ridge Route;
- the addition of a Georgian Route Special;
- proposed revisions to existing routes;
- potential fare increases;
- the addition of new bus shelters;
- the addition of bike racks on the buses.
