The law governing policing in Ontario is the Police Services Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. P 15, as amended. The Police Services Act is administered by the Ministry of the Solicitor General.
The Police Services Act and Ontario Regulation 3/99 - Adequacy and Effectives of Police Services is the legal framework that defines the roles and responsibilities of Police Services Boards.
The City of Orillia is responsible to fund the delivery of police services and the Orillia Police Services Board is responsible to govern the police services. Although the City of Orillia and the Orillia Police Services Board are linked, they operate differently.
An agreement for the delivery of Police Services under Section 10 of the Police Services Act has been signed between the Solicitor General and the Corporation of the City of Orillia.
Police services for the City of Orillia are provided by the Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.)
