Mandate and Purpose |
The Accessibility Advisory Committee is mandated by the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, and is governed by Schedule "A" of Chapter 105 of the City of Orillia Municipal Code - Committees and Public Appointments. The purpose of the Accessibility Advisory Committee is to provide City Council with recommendations related to the identification, removal and prevention of barriers to persons with disabilities within our community. The Committee hosts a public meeting in the fall each year. The meeting is open to members of the public and persons with disabilities to provide feedback on conventional and specialized transportation services, parking spaces, on-demand accessible taxicabs, recreational trails, outdoor play spaces and rest areas along exterior paths of travel. This meeting is held pursuant to Section 29(4) of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and Sections 41(2), 79(1), 80.8, 80.19, 80.29 and 80.39 of Ontario Regulation 191/11 - Integrated Accessibility Standards. Information gathered from the annual public meeting helps to inform updates to the City of Orillia's 2023-2028 Accessibility Plan with 2024 updates incorporated.
