Public Appointments
Council appoints approximately 100 citizens and local agency representatives to its boards, committees and working groups. Share your expertise, creative ideas, or interest in serving your community by becoming a member. The scope of knowledge and volunteerism provided through local public engagement is of great benefit to the whole community.

New Members are currently needed for:
- Downtown BIA Parking Working Group - (1)
- Orillia Food Access and Sustainability Working Group - (1)
- Applicants are encouraged from the local area who may identify as: a local student aged 16 to 25; Indigenous; Senior; or, others who may have lived experience with food insecurity or background in sustainable, equitable food systems
- Poverty Reduction Working Group (5) - see more details about this Special Ad Hoc Working Group recently established by Council - application deadline is Thursday, October 31, 2024.

- One community member representing arts and recreation
Appointees will work with Councillor Janet-Lynne Durnford and a representative from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.

Qualifications
Most often members are required to be an eligible elector of the City of Orillia, but there are exceptions when a non-resident from the local area may also be appointed.
Term
Appointments are aligned with the four-year term of Council. Members will be eligible to serve for two consecutive terms and may be extended while a new Council undertakes review and orientation at the beginning of the Council term. Members may also be appointed to fill a vacancy mid-term when vacant seats occur.
Remuneration
Citizens who volunteer to serve on City boards and committees are paid an annual stipend as outlined in City of Orillia Remuneration By-law See the current version: Chapter 493 of the City of Orillia Municipal Code.
