Couchiching Community Safety and Well-Being Plan
The Province's Safer Ontario Act, 2018 (Bill 175) requires municipalities to develop a Community Safety and Well-Being Plan using the provincial government's Community Safety and Well-Being Framework.
Under the leadership of the County of Simcoe's Emergency Management and Social Services Departments, the City of Orillia as well as the Townships of Oro-Medonte, Ramara and Severn partnered to develop the joint Couchiching Community Safety and Well-Being Plan. Orillia City Council adopted the Couchiching Community Safety and Well-Being Plan on June 7, 2021. Proactively, this was the logical step following the Orillia and Area Canadian Index of Well-Being Project (2018).
Throughout the County of Simcoe, eight community safety and well-being priority areas (areas of risk) have been identified. Based on current data, the Couchiching Community Safety and Well-Being Plan will focus on the following four areas of risk:
- Mental Health and Addictions
- Social Connectedness/Safety
- Employment
- Access to Services
Goal
The Couchiching Community Safety and Well-Being Plan sets out how partners across different sectors (including local government, police services, health/mental health, education, social services and community and custodial services for children and youth) can work together to make our communities a place where all residents thrive.
The overarching goal of the Couchiching Community Safety and Well-Being Plan is to achieve a sustainable community where everyone is safe, has a sense of belonging, access to services and where individuals and families are able to meet their needs for education, health care, food, housing, income, and social and cultural expression.
Have Your Say!
Thank you to everyone who took our survey to tell us what challenges, obstacles or gaps you have experienced or observed in addressing the above areas of risk. The survey closed on March 22, 2021.
A more in-depth consultation with our communities will follow this survey in the coming months.
