City of Orillia residents must apply for an Entrance Permit when looking to widen their existing driveway or to create an entrance to their property. The regulations for Entrance Permits are set out in City of Orillia Municipal Code Chapter 1000.
Completed applications can be sent to engineering@orillia.ca or dropped off to the Engineering Division on the third floor of the City Centre. The application fee is $120 and must be paid in person via cash, cheque or debit. This fee includes one final inspection.
Once the application and payment has been received, staff will review. Applications are reviewed by Engineering and Roads staff. Once approved, applicants will be advised that their permit is ready for pick-up, but they must pay a deposit and submit a certificate of insurance before it can be issued. The deposit for low density residential homes is $500. Medium density, high density residential, commercial, industrial, or institutional lands must pay a deposit of $2,000. This deposit is returned to the applicant after a final inspection has confirmed the entrance is in accordance with City standards. If additional inspections are required, there is a fee of $160 per inspection.
A certificate of comprehensive general liability insurance of not less than five million dollars inclusive per occurrence for bodily injury, death, and damage to property, including loss of use thereof must be submitted to the City. The insurance policy must name “The Corporation of the City of Orillia” as an additional insured. The insurance policy must remain in place until all warranty requirements are fulfilled and must contain the endorsement to provide the City with 30 days prior written notice of any cancellation of change
