Mandate and Purpose |
The Orillia Sunshine Youth Senate is governed by Chapter 108 of the City of Orillia Municipal Code.

Terms of Reference a) Act as an advisory committee to Council on matters within the influence of the City of Orillia which will have an impact on the youth of the Orillia area. b) Act as a positive advocate for all youth; promote unity without assimilation to enable youth to work together to identify common goals, issues and solutions. c) Encourage the constructive input of the youth of the Orillia area on those matters which are likely to have an impact upon them. d) Offer a platform for youth to become more familiar with the workings of local government through education, involvement and participation; help youth gain experience and understanding of political and administrative functions and operations of the Corporation of the City of Orillia. e) Endeavour to participate actively in community events and activities in Orillia and through this involvement, develop leadership skills and foster a positive image for all young people. f) Research and report on specific matters referred to the Senate by Council. |
Membership |
The Senate consists of eleven (11) members, aged 13 to 19 years old, who are from the City of Orillia or surrounding Townships and eligible to attend school in the local area. The Council Liaison for the Senate is currently Councillor Jay Fallis. |
