The Development Services and Engineering Department is responsible for building, planning, engineering and transportation, and heritage.
In addition, the Development Services and Engineering Department is actively involved in the following:
- Recreational trail development
- Transportation studies/surveys
- Studies related to specific planning issues
- Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) (formerly Local Planning Appeals Tribunal (LPAT))
- Statutory public meetings
- Matters related to affordable housing and student housing
- Asset Management
The Planning Division:
- Administering the City's Official Plan
- Administering the City's Zoning By-law
- Administering Development Applications
- Requires Preconsultation for certain Development Applications
- Reviewing Current Development Applications and Activity
- Administering the Sign By-law
- Regulating Shoreline Development
- Administering the Municipal Addressing Manual
- Pre-consulting and Approvals of development proposals including Site Plan Control
- Providing staff resources to Committee of Adjustment and public information sessions
- Information on the process to Legalize Existing Dwelling Units
