City Recreation Services staff strive to ensure a high quality of life for Orillians by implementing new and exciting recreation programs that encourage healthy, active living, and personal development regardless of age, level, or ability.
Specific responsibilities of the Recreation Services Division include:
- Research and report on trends and issues in recreation, sport tourism, and facility management
- Develop policy
- Promote year-round use of parks and facilities
- Liaise with school boards to ensure community use of local schools
- Liaise with community groups and local non-profit sports and leisure organizations
- Provide aquatic services including year-round swim lessons and programs
- Oversee the supervision of beaches in summer
- Provide Christmas, March Break, and Summer Day Camps
- Produce quarterly Recreation Program Activities Guide
- Promote the City as a destination for sports tournaments and events
- Operate various sports leagues
- Oversee annual awards programs including Orillia Athlete of the Year and the presentation of McKinnon and McNabb hockey trophies
- Schedule and issue permits for all facilities and parks for both seasonal use and special events
- Oversee special projects and events
