Orillia Discover Downtown Goosechase

Join us for the Orillia Discover Downtown Goosechase this holiday season! The City of Orillia, Downtown Orillia Management Board, and My Main Street are pleased to host our first ever downtown digital scavenger hunt that allows participants to complete missions for points and be entered to win $3,000 worth of prizes!

Please note, the Orillia Discover Downtown Goosechase game will not be available to play until November 19, 2022.

What is Goosechase?

Inspired by scavenger hunts, Goosechase is an online platform that lets participants view and actively complete missions for points and prizes. The free Goosechase app can be downloaded from either the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Once downloaded, sign up as an individual or a Team and begin playing or “completing missions” to earn participant points and compete for prizes against fellow Goosechase-ers!

A few mission examples include taking a photo of your favourite window display in downtown Orillia, having a Wednesday date night downtown and uploading your receipt, finding the downtown Elf on the Shelf. There are so many more missions to choose from!

About the Game

The Goosechase game can be played individually or as a group! Once you’ve downloaded the app, you will enter either your name (if you’re an individual player) or your team’s name (if you’re playing as a team). From here, you will be able to view the 50 missions that can be completed anytime from November 19 to December 31, 2022. Each mission is worth different points and the individual or team who has the most points by December 31, will win a grand prize valued at $1,000!

There are also six weekly prizes, each valued at $300, up for grabs! Keep an eye out on social media and be sure to follow @OrilliaEDO and @DowntownOrillia for more information on how to enter for chance to win.

The Orillia Discover Downtown Goosechase offers a grand prize of $1,000 in Downtown Dollars that are eligible to be spent at most downtown Orillia businesses. Please visit the Downtown Orillia directory for a comprehensive list. Along with this grand prize, participants will have the chance to win six weekly prizes each valued at $300! All weekly prizes will consist of a mix of City of Orillia SWAG and Downtown Dollars. There is no better time to win these prizes than during the holidays to help you check off everyone’s holiday wish list! 

 How to Get Started!
Follow these steps to register and begin playing:

 

  1. Within the app, you will be asked to create an account or continue as a guest. Either option will allow you to fully play the game.

    Please note, the Orillia Discover Downtown Goosechase game will not be available to play until November 19, 2022.

  2. Next, you will need to submit your Team name. Teams can consist of 1 to 5 people. Make sure to create a password for your team so only you and your friends/family can join your team. Learn more about Teams in the FAQ section below.

  3. Once you have signed into the app, you can easily search for and join the game by using the unique game code LK57EP or the game name “Orillia Discover Downtown Goosechase”.

  4. Once you join the game, you will see our community’s list of 50 missions.

  5. Next, head to downtown Orillia and begin completing missions and uploading photos/videos/receipts of each mission.

Frequently Asked Questions
  Can I play as an individual, or do I have to create a Team?
You can play as an individual or as a Team.
  • Teams can consist of 1 to 5 people. Should you want to play individually, you will still be asked to create a "Team Name". This can simply be your name, or you can get creative! The choice is yours.
  • Remember to set a unique passcode to ensure no other players are able to join your Team without your permission.
 How long do I have to complete missions?
The Orillia Discover Downtown Goosechase runs from November 19 to December 31, 2022.
  • You can complete missions at any time during this time frame.
  • However, there are 6 weekly prizes. In order to be entered to win these weekly prizes, you must complete each of the 6 missions during a specific time period. To find out these specific times, read the mission descriptions for each weekly prize.
 Can I complete the weekly prize missions at any time?
Yes, however:
  • In order to be entered to win these weekly prizes, you must complete each of the 6 missions during a specific time period. To find out these specific times, read the mission descriptions for each weekly prize.
  • You can still complete the weekly prize missions at any time to earn points toward the grand prize; however, if the missions are completed outside of the allotted time frame, you will not be entered into that weekly prize draw.
 When and how will the prizes be announced?
Weekly prizes will be announced each week, and the grand prize will be announced by January 6, 2023.

 

All winners will be contacted through the Goosechase app.

 

  • For the weekly prizes, all individuals/Teams who complete the week's prize mission during the allotted time frame will be entered into a random draw. Once determined, the winning individual/Team will be messaged directly through the Goosechase app. 
  • For the grand prize, the winning individual/Team with the highest amount of points will win the grand prize.
  • If there is a tie, a random draw will take place. Once determined, the winning individual/Team will be messaged directly through the Goosechase app. 

 
What prizes are up for grabs?
  • One grand prize of $1,000 Downtown Dollars

  • Six weekly prizes valued at $300 including Downtown Dollars and City of Orillia branded merch.
    • All individuals/Teams who complete the week's prize mission during the allotted time frame will be entered into a random draw. Once determined, the winning individual/Team will be messaged directly through the Goosechase app. 
  • One prize draw of $200 Downtown Dollars
