About the Economic Development Office

The goal of the Economic Development Department is to promote and encourage industrial, commercial and residential development to increase assessment, employment, and social opportunities in the City of Orillia.

Staff encourages this development by establishing and maintaining on-going relationships with local businesses and community organizations.

The Economic Development Department actively participates in local events including the Orillia & Lake Country Business Expo and the Explore the Trades event. 

Key projects include facilitation of the new Hydro One Advanced Technology Hub and Costco.  The department is currently working on a number of strategic initiatives including the Tourism Strategic Action Plan, a Retail Mix Analysis and a Downtown Tomorrow Community Improvement Plan.

Under the Director of Economic Development, the experienced staff complement includes the Manager of Real Estate and Commercial Development, the Manager of Business Retention & Expansion and Industrial Development, and the Manager of Tourism and Marketing.  The office provides advisory and consultative services for public and private sector partners to develop economic projects, and compiles and maintains the City of Orillia's Municipal Profile and Major Employers List.
