Default Interior Background

Women working on machineryOrillia's reliable and skilled workforce has been driving innovation, invention, and manufacturing efforts since the 1800s, when the town grew into an industrial powerhouse. Our people continue to be our greatest asset, working hard to mobilize the city's diversified, stable economy.

From 2001 to 2006, the size of the resident labour force increased by 8.9% in Orillia, growth that surpasses the population increase - and a sure sign that Orillia has a healthy and growing economy. In addition, a higher percentage of those in the labour force are also actively employed. Orillia's workforce participation rate increased to 64.1% in 2006 while the unemployment rate was notably lower (0.7%) than the unemployment rate for Ontario in 2006. There is also a large resident workforce in the surrounding area (the Townships of Oro-Medonte, Severn, and Ramara) with an equivalent level of labour force participation.
