The Orillia Housing Resource Centre under the management of the Housing Resource Centre is a charitable non-profit organization that serves all segments of the community who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The centre will assist in identifying and working towards eliminating existing barriers to suitable and affordable shelter. Programs offered through the HRC include a free housing registry and Housing Retention Fund. The Simcoe County Alliance to End Homelessness (also known as SCATEH or the Alliance) is a non-profit organization comprised of a central Steering Committee and 5 geographically-based chapters working in an association with individuals and organizations committed to reducing and ultimately ending homelessness and housing insecurity. Members work at the municipal and County levels to identify shortfalls in housing and related services and to build community support to overcome them. The County of Simcoe provides the planning, funding and management of the County's social housing system. The Social Housing Department provides affordable housing for people whose income makes it difficult to obtain and maintain regular market rent housing. Habitat for Humanity - Ontario Gateway North Habitat for Humanity Ontario Gateway North is a non-profit organization working to break the cycle of poverty by building homes and promoting affordable homeownership, through the mobilization of volunteers and community partners. On September 1, 2014 Habitat for Humanity affiliates of North Simcoe (Midland), Orillia Lake Country, Muskoka, North Bay & Blue Sky Region and Sudbury District legally amalgamated into one new affiliate serving a large area of North Central & Northern Ontario. Administrative resources are centralized out of the regional office in Muskoka with chapters located in North Simcoe, Orillia, Parry Sound, North Bay, Sudbury and Timmins. Information Orillia is a charitable non-profit Information and Volunteer centre, serving the people of Orillia, Rama First Nation, and the townships of Oro-Medonte, Severn, Ramara, since 1969. They provide system navigation and support by telephone, walk-in, or email, to reduce barriers and connect people with the community services they need. Information Orillia is also a qualified Ontario Energy Support Program intake agency as well as providing Volunteer Matching to unite people with meaningful opportunities. The Salvation Army is an international Christian organization is the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services and support to vulnerable people across Canada and around the world. The Salvation Army offers practical assistance for children and families, often tending to the basic necessities of life by providing shelter for homeless people and rehabilitation for people who have lost control of their lives to an addiction. Helping Hands offers community support services for seniors and adults with physical disabilities. The Supportive Housing program offers on-site support to clients living in the Fellowship Towers Apartments, Coldwater Seniors Apartment and Hillcrest Lodge. These services include Personal care: assistance with non-medical personal care. Homemaking: essential cleaning, meal preparation and shopping. Emergency Response: 24 hour response. The Orillia Youth Centre provides a safe supervised Resource Centre and Drop in Centre for the youth of Orillia. The centre offers recreational entertainment and workshops educating about Self-esteem, Youth employment and Life-Skills, Teen Pregnancy, Group and Computer Workshops. The Resource Centre offers information on local clubs and services geared to the youth of Orillia. The Sharing Place Food Centre has a set of programs that connect our community to food, including the Food Recovery, School Fuel, Meals-4-Change and Food Bank Programs. Members may access a six-day supply of nutritious food once a month through the Food Bank Program. The Saint Vincent de Paul SocietyOffers a food bank and operates Vinnie's Children's Clothing. Help is open to all denominations. Assists with emergency/temporary accommodations, clothing and small household furnishings. Food donations can be dropped off at all Guardian Angels family of churches and through food drives at local Catholic schools. Receipts are provided for cash donations. The Community Mental Health ProgramThe Mental Health and Homelessness initiative was established to improve the quality of life for adults, living with serious mental health problems, who are homeless or at high risk of homelessness, by assisting them to access and maintain housing which is safe, affordable and satisfactory. The goal is to provide long term, flexible individualized support to participants with serious mental health problems so they may experience improved quality of life as they participate as full citizens in their community. The initiative is about providing service to those individuals who are either homeless or at high risk of being homeless and providing service to those who are not already receiving assistance from other social service organizations. The Lighthouse is a men’s shelter which is staffed 24 hours a day, providing 3 meals a day, access to housing support workers, and tools for goal setting and success. The Lighthouse also has a motel voucher program for women and families. The Lighthouse also provides a community meal program, with lunch being served at 11:30 a.m. Monday - Saturday. Youth Haven Orillia Outreach Counsellors provide support to youth ages 16-24 with Advocacy, Basic Needs, Court Support, Education, Emotion Management, Employment, Housing/Emergency Shelter, Life Skills, Referrals to other community services and Transportation. We also provide various workshops in Art Therapy, Healthy Relationships, Self-Esteem and any other programming appropriate the needs of our clients. We also offer the Rent Smart program which provides education in developing the tools and knowledge to be good tenants, good landlords and increase housing stability. We will meet with clients at our office located at The Gathering Space (246 Oxford St. Unit B7), at any of our four Drop-In locations and in the community.
