Emergencies can happen at any time and without warning. Be ready. With a little preparation, you can respond quickly to help yourself and others. Stay Informed, understand the risks in your area. Make a Plan, create a household emergency plan. Build a Kit, build an emergency kit.
Emergency Preparedness Starts With You!
Emergencies can affect the health and safety of residents and visitors, property, the environment and the economic viability of the City of Orillia.
What is an emergency? An emergency is a situation or impending situation caused by forces of nature, accidents or an intentional act that constitutes a danger of major proportions to life and property.
Orillia is not immune to such emergencies. Windstorms, tornadoes, blizzards, pandemics and incidents such as power outages have occurred in the City before and will likely happen again.
By taking an active role in your community, you are helping to build a culture of preparedness in Canada. While governments at all levels are working hard to keep Canada safe, everyone has a role to play in being prepared for an emergency.
Building awareness is a great first step. With your help, together we can communicate the importance of emergency preparedness to all Canadians.
It is the responsibility of all residents and the municipality to be prepared to respond to and recover from an emergency.
