Orillia fire fighters represent Orillia, the Orillia Fire Department and their Association with a colour party and honour guard at ceremonies throughout the province. Orillia fire fighters are also associated with the Ontario Professional Fire Fighters and the International Fire Fighters Associations.
Volunteer Fire Fighters
The Orillia Fire Department has 30 volunteer fire fighters. A volunteer fire fighter is a person who is willing to leave their job, use their personal vehicle, attend regular training, and answer a pager at all hours to assist the professional fire fighters in emergency situations. Often, volunteers leave work or family commitments as part of this duty.
In addition, the volunteers raise money for a variety of causes through barbecues and a range of other events. They have also created a Disaster Relief Endowment Fund through the Community Foundation of Orillia & Area in partnership with the Canadian Red Cross, North Simcoe Victim Crisis Services and the Salvation Army. Established in 2009, this fund helps those affected by fires, floods and other family tragedies.
Would you like to become a volunteer fire fighter? When needed, the Orillia Fire Department hires volunteers from an eligibility list created after a recruitment process.
