The City of Orillia issues Marriage Licences on behalf of the Province of Ontario through the Province’s Online Marriage Application Licence program. 

The City of Orillia does not offer civil marriage ceremonies. 

How to Get a Marriage Licence 

1. Fill out the Marriage Licence Application:
   • Online: Complete the Marriage Licence Application (bottom of the page to begin application)
   • In Person: Get a paper application at Orillia City Centre (50 Andrew St. S.) Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
2.  Pick Up the Licence:
   • This appointment will take approximately 25-30 minutes.
   • You can:
   • Book a timeslot online, by phone (705-325-1311), or by email (councilservices@orillia.ca).
   • Visit the Orillia City Centre (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) to schedule an appointment.

Marriage Licence Details:

Cost:

• The 2025 Marriage Licence fee is $166 (Payable by cash or debit at time of issue).  

 Validity:

• A marriage licence is valid for 90 days for use anywhere Ontario.

 Required Identification:

• Two (2) pieces of original government issued identification for each applicant. (One (1) piece of identification must include a photo for each applicant.)
• If you are able to upload all four (4) pieces of identification to the application, only the person picking up the licence is required to bring their identification to the appointment.

• If you are NOT able to upload your identification to the application, you must bring all four (4) pieces of identification with you to the municipal office when picking up your marriage licence. 

• Only one person needs to attend to pick up the licence. 
• Examples of government-issued identification include:
  • Valid Passport
  • Valid Driver’s Licence
  • Valid Ontario Photo Card
  • Birth Certificate (with any change of name certificates)
  • Record of Immigrant Landing
  • Permanent Residence Card
  • Canadian Citizenship Card

Special Cases:

• Widowed: Applicants who are widowed must provide a death certificate, Funeral Director's Statement of Death or Court order.
• Divorced in Canada: An original Certificate of Divorce must be presented with an original signature and seal (Court Orders will not be accepted). 
• Divorced Outside Canada: Contact councilservices@orillia.ca or 705-325-1311 for more details.
• Under 18 years of age: If you are under 18 years old, you will need written consent from all of your parents or legal guardians. All parents or legal guardians must complete the Consent of Parents or Guardians to Marriage Form when they go to obtain the marriage licence from the municipality.

The City Clerk serves as a Division Registrar under Ontario’s Vital Statistics Act and the Marriage Act, reporting to the Office of the Registrar General. The Council Services Division is responsible for issuing marriage licences and registering deaths.
