Current Grants and Special Programming
The City of Orillia is pleased to announce its official designation as part of Ontario’s Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC) program, a move that will enhance opportunities for older adults in the community to stay active, engaged, and connected.
With funding from the Government of Ontario, the City of Orillia has transitioned the Seniors at Play program into the newly established Orillia Active Living Centre (OALC). The OALC is based in the Orillia Room at Rotary Place (100 University Ave.), a hub for community connection and older adult focused programming. The OALC will continue to offer the popular programs that community members already enjoy while expanding to include programs such as: Tai Chi, Ukulele, and quarterly bus trips.
Orillia Walkability Project - Seniors Community Grant Program
Let's Walk and Talk, Orillia!
The Orillia Walkability Project aims to enhance the accessibility and walkability of sidewalks, roads and trails throughout the City of Orillia. The project aims to foster a more inclusive, user-friendly environment for residents and visitors of all ages and abilities, with a particular focus on the needs of older adults. Community members, specifically older adults, are encouraged to walk different routes across Orillia, and provide feedback using a survey tool that will identify both strengths and areas for improvement, contributing to creating a safer, more accessible community that encourages active living and social connection.
Join us for a guided walks as we explore different routes in our community and assess how “walkable” they are. Participants will complete short surveys during each walk to share their experience. This program is part of the Orillia Walkability Project, funded by the Seniors Community Grant Program, and is free to join. Scheduled walks will be listed on the OALC monthly calendar of events beginning in December 2025.
Not available for the scheduled walks? No problem! We encourage community members to stay active this winter and complete the survey on their own! See below to complete the survey link.
