Help shape the development of the Orillia Youth Strategy!
The Orillia Youth Strategy is a study to investigate the current state of youth services in Orillia, and make recommendations for how to sustainably grow services to meet the needs of youth. The strategy builds on the City’s commitment to Orillia’s youth, and is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2024 by third-party consultants Maximum City in collaboration with City staff.

We’re looking for 5 youth aged 16-24 to connect with other youth to help us understand what issues matter, and how to best involve youth in the design of youth services. An honorarium of $500.00 per team member will be provided. Applications are now closed.

Call for Recruits: The Role of the Youth Research Team (YRT) | ||||||||||
*Please note, applications are now closed.*We are looking for a team of five enthusiastic young people ages 16-24 who live in Orillia and can help engage other youth in their experiences and ideas for youth services in Orillia and Simcoe County. The role of the Youth Research Team (YRT) will be to connect with other youth to understand what issues matter most to them when planning and delivering services like recreation, health, and community centres.
Successful candidates will complete approximately 40 hours of work between March and June 2024 and receive an honorarium of $500.oo per team member.
This is an exciting opportunity to build research and engagement skills, and help influence how Orillia meets the needs of young people in a positive and sustainable way!

The Orillia Youth Strategy will be co-created with youth. Central to this process will be the Youth Research Team (YRT), who will document the youth perspective in the City of Orillia and help to form the basis of the Strategy. Recruitment for the Youth Research Team will begin in February 2024, and the deadline to apply is March 4, 2024. |
What is the definition of youth for the study? |
The broad definition of youth being used for the Strategy is ages 10-29, but a more targeted definition of youth ages 10-18 will be the focus. There are an estimated 7,035 youth and young adults aged 10-29 living in the City of Orillia (Statistics Canada Census 2021 via Orillia Townfolio Database). |
What are the categories of services for the study? |
Services are specific resources provided by organizations, agencies, and providers that youth in Orillia can expect to have access to through the local or regional government, or the community-at-large. As we develop a full list, we are looking into the following categories which sometimes overlap:

The primary geographic study area is services provided within the City of Orillia, or provided elsewhere to youth residing in the City of Orillia. |
Who is leading the study? |
Maximum City, a third party consultant, is leading the study in collaboration with City of Orillia Staff. |
