Property Tax Billing
The City of Orillia issues two property tax bills a year; the Interim tax bill in January and Final tax bill in June. Each bill has two payment installment due dates.
Interim Tax Bill
The Interim tax bill is mailed in January and is based on approximately 50% of the previous years taxes.
- Installment Due Dates: March 15th and May 15th
Final Tax Bill
The Final tax bill is mailed in June and is calculated by using the assessment provided by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) multiplied by the municipal Property Tax Rates, less the Interim tax bill amount.
- Installment Due Dates: August 15th and October 15th
Supplementary/Omitted Tax Bill
These tax bills are only issued if your property's assessed value or classification changes because of improvements made to the property or a change in its use. Each bill will have two installment due dates that will vary based on time of billing.
The assessments are provided to the City by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC). For further information please visit Supplementary and Omitted Property Assessments.
Payments must be received by the City by the due dates to avoid a late payment penalty charge. The penalty charge is added to all past-due installments or parts thereof as follows:
- 1 ¼% added on the first working day following the due date
- 1 ¼% per month thereafter
Failure to receive the tax bill does not relieve the property owner from payment of taxes or liability for penalty on late payment.

On occasion, specific properties may have installment due dates that differ from those shown above. Please check the due dates on your tax bill to confirm. If you have any questions please contact the Financial Services Department at 705-329-7239.
School Support Designation
The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) maintains school support information. As a property owner, you are required to support a school system, even if you do not have children or your children are not currently attending school. This information can be found on your property assessment notice.
For more information or to change your designation visit: MPAC – School Support Designation.
Property Assessments
The City of Orillia does not perform property assessments. Property assessments are provided by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC). If you have any concerns about the assessed value or classification of your property, please contact the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation or refer to aboutmyproperty.ca.
If you think that your property assessment is incorrect please refer to the Property Tax Appeals page for more information.
Reassessments
Property assessments for the 2023 property tax year will continue to be based on the January 1, 2016 current values unless there have been changes to the property.
Provincial reassessment is conducted every four years. An update was planned for 2020 but was further postponed due to Covid restrictions. When reassessments do occur, it will not create additional tax revenue for the municipality, as tax rates are adjusted to maintain the levy approved through budget.
For more information on reassessments visit: How will my property assessment impact my property taxes?
