The municipal tax rate is calculated by dividing the net expenditures (total expenditures less general revenues) by the total taxable assessment for the municipality. The education tax rate is established by the province.
Municipal tax rates are classified according to property (i.e., residential, commercial, and industrial). The City of Orillia uses a banded (or tiered) tax system for commercial properties. The portion of assessment over ten million dollars on a property is taxed at the "high band" rate.
