Ways to honour our veterans and active service members:

- wear a poppy
- join or support a local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion
The Legion is happy to announce that the annual Remembrance Day ceremony returns to the Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospitals cenotaph on November 11. The service starts at 10:15AM, with a moment of silence at 11AM. It will also be televised live on RogersTV.
Please maintain Covid-19 safety protocols when attending any -in-person event or purchasing poppies from volunteers.
More on Remembrance Day can be found on the Royal Canadian Legion's website.
100th Anniversary of the Poppy
2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the Remembrance Poppy in Canada. It was proposed by Madame Anna Guérin, who was inspired by John McCrea's poem, "In Flanders Fields". Poppies are worn the two weeks prior to November 11 and are an important means of raising money for Veteran's needs and bringing awareness to the many who lost their lives fighting for our country. This year's commemorative pin honours the poppy's significance and is reminiscent of those first distributed following the First World War .
The local branch has a limited supply of the 100th Anniversary Commemorative Pin. Please call ahead at 705-325-8442.
The history of the Poppy and significance of the 100th anniversary is available on the Royal Canadian Legion's website.
