Hazardous Waste Disposal |
Q. What should I do with unused medicines, paint, and cleaners that I don't need anymore?
A. These and other items can be taken, free of charge, to the Household Hazardous Waste Depot at Orillia's Waste Diversion Site (Landfill), at 100 Kitchener Street. |
Sewers |
Q. Where does my water go when it goes down the drain?
A. A sanitary sewer system is a complex network of pipes and pumps buried beneath the street. The system is designed to transport wastewater or waterborne wastes from homes, businesses and industries to the treatment facility. For more information, please visit the Sewer Backup page. Q. My sewer has backed up. Who do I contact? A. If you have a sewer back up, please call: 705-329-7249 (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) or 705-326-4671 after hours. Q. What can I flush down the toilet? A. The only product that should be flushed is toilet paper. It is the only product that is designed to break down as it travels through the wastewater treatment process. Any other item should be disposed of properly in your green bin, recycling box or garbage. |
Utility/Underground Locates |
Q. Who do I contact for sewer locates?
A. Contact Ontario One Call: 1-800-400-2255. |
Disposal of Recreational Vehicle Holding Tank Waste |
Q. How do I dispose of the holding tank waste from my Recreational Vehicle?
A. The City does not provide services for disposal of recreational vehicle holding tanks. However, there are several private and provincial parks in the area that may accept waste. Please contact them directly to inquire. |
Billing |
Q. How do I pay for my water and sewer?
Q. The amount on my water bill is split between water and sewer charges. What does the sewer charge represent? A. The sewer portion of the utility bill represents the total cost for wastewater treatment, infrastructure, and maintenance of the sewer system. In the basic and usage rate fees, all costs associated with the water and the wastewater systems are calculated individually. This allows the City to provide a true-cost recovery for each system. This is why the water and sewer rates have different rate charges applied to them. |
Water Pollution |
Q. What causes water pollution?
A. There are three major contributors to water pollution:
