When using multi-use trails, you may encounter hikers, bikers, dog walkers, inline skaters, runners, and others.
Please follow this Trail Etiquette - the polite way to use our beautiful trails:
- Respect the trail and adjacent landowners.
- Be aware and courteous of other trail users.
- Stay to the right when approaching fellow trail users and pass on their left.
- Clean up after pets and keep them leashed.
- Be courteous to other hikers.
- Walk, ride or cycle in single file in the middle of the trail.
Please remember that motorized vehicles are prohibited on the municipal trail system with the exception of personal mobility devices and E-Bikes.
Limited-speed motorcycles, motor-assisted bicycles (moped), pocket bikes, electric and motorized scooters and segway scooters are not permitted on the trail system in addition to the large motorized vehicles such as cars, trucks, snowmobiles, ATVs, dirt bikes etc...
E-bikes are allowed on the trail when the following provisions are followed:
- Rider must be 16 years or over

E-Bike bears a label that is permanently affixed by the manufacturer and appears in a conspicuous location stating, in both official languages, that the vehicle is a power-assisted bicycle as defined, and e-Bike has one of the following safety features: an enabling mechanism to turn the electric motor on and off that is separate from the accelerator controller and fitted in such a manner that it is operable by the driver, or a mechanism that prevents the motor from being engaged before the bicycle attains 3 km/hr.
Cycling and/or mountain biking is not permitted on Scout Valley trails, with the exception of Sgt. Greg Stobbart Multi-Use Trail next to Old Barrie Road.
New types of alternative vehicles are becoming more mainstream. Please consult with the City of Orillia Legislative Services Division by calling 705-325-2313 prior to purchasing these types of vehicles to find out if they are allowed in your neighbourhood or on the trail system.
