A Safer Community Is Everyone’s Responsibility - Enforcement Is Active. Safety Is Non-Negotiable.

For immediate release (July 24, 2025) – The City of Orillia’s commitment to road safety continues with two of its Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras now active and issuing tickets to drivers who choose to ignore posted speed limits. If you’re not speeding, you won’t get a ticket.

Cameras have been activated in the Community Safety Zones on Park Street and Fittons Road West, with the Westmount Drive South camera scheduled to launch soon.

“These Community Safety Zones are not just signs on the side of the road, they are a clear message that protecting our children and vulnerable road users is non-negotiable,” said Mayor Don McIsaac. “If you are obeying the law, you have nothing to worry about. But if you choose to speed and threaten the safety of others, the consequences will catch up with you.”

Community Safety Zones, which include reduced 40 km/h speed limits 24/7, were established earlier this year on Fittons Road West, Park Street, and Westmount Drive South. These areas were chosen because of their proximity to schools, parks, and places where vulnerable pedestrians are most at risk. Fines for speeding and other violations are significantly increased within these zones under the Highway Traffic Act.

The Automated Speed Enforcement program works in tandem with these zones to hold drivers accountable, enhance compliance with speed limits, and help prevent speed-related collisions.

A Reminder to All Drivers:

  • Slow down. Follow the posted limits. Keep our streets safe.
  • Two cameras are active. Tickets are issued to the registered owner of the vehicle, regardless of who is driving.

Since activation, some drivers have been recorded going more than 80 km/h in Community Safety Zones. These speeds are unacceptable and dangerous. The City’s ASE program ensures these reckless actions carry consequences and reduces dangerous driving behaviours.
