The City of Orillia is conducting water main maintenance in specific areas throughout the city starting this week through to the end of September. Water main maintenance includes a procedure known as swabbing, which is performed annually to ensure water quality is maintained.
The swabbing procedure requires specific sections of water main to be isolated to allow for scouring, flushing and disinfecting of the water pipe. Water service in the area being swabbed will be interrupted for approximately six hours during the procedure.
During the cleaning process, water may be discoloured temporarily, but poses no risk to residents. To get rid of the discolouration, open a cold water tap and run the water until it clears, which may take several minutes. Contact the City’s Environmental Services Department at 705-329-7249 should the discolouration persist.
Specific areas where water main maintenance is taking place will be notified in advance with a written notice containing specific details.
The City of Orillia is a city of 31,000 people in the heart of Ontario’s Lake Country on the shores of Lake Couchiching and Lake Simcoe. Visit our website at orillia.ca.
