Next Tuesday, June 4th, The City of Orillia is hosting an information session and sponsorship workshop for local arts and cultural organizations seeking funding through the artsVest™ program.
artsVest™ is a Business for the Arts matching incentive and sponsorship training program designed to spark new business sponsorship of arts and culture, and will operate in Orillia from 2013-2014. Arts and culture organizations in Orilla will receive in-depth sponsorship training and will be invited to apply for a total of $25,000 in matching incentive grants, which they will have six months to match with new sponsorships from local businesses.
“The City is excited to once again bring this program to Orillia,” says Jacqueline Soczka, Manager of Culture for the City of Orillia. “We were successful in raising sponsorship dollars through this program in 2007 which we hope to repeat this time around. The connection between business and the arts is vital to the quality of life and economic prosperity of our community.
The workshop will be held June 4th from 9am to 4pm at the Orillia Public Library. Following the workshop, join us at 5pm in the Green Room of the Opera House to celebrate the launch of this exciting initiative. Guest performers will include Meredith Warboys, pianist, guitarist and member of the Orillia Vocal Ensemble along with Suds Sutherland of The Sensations, one of this year’s featured artists at Orillia Spring Blues. These two artists represent organizations or events which have benefited from this program in the past.
Orillia was one of only seven Ontario communities selected by Business for the Arts to receive matching incentive grants and sponsorship training for 2013-2014 through artsVest™. Since the inception of the program in 2002 to 2011, 960 businesses have partnered with 305 cultural organizations through artsVest – 602 of these businesses were first-time sponsors of the arts. A total of $1,675,000 in matching funds has generated over $3,457,000 in private sector sponsorship, resulting in an influx of more than $5,124,000 to the cultural economy. The program is delivered in Ontario with support from Canadian Heritage, the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
