The City of Orillia is undergoing a reorganization in order to align resources with key municipal challenges and save $43,000 annually and reduce the tax levy by $143,000 when fully implemented.
Council approved the reorganization on Monday.
“As part of the CAO’s work plan presented to Council earlier this year, we conducted an organizational review of the Corporation to look for efficiencies and synergies between departments,” said CAO Roman Martiuk. “The reorganization together with a new budget process and the continuous improvement program are intended to help the City find savings to help address the fiscal challenges we are facing.”
On September 17th, 2012 Council approved the following:
1) The merger of Planning and Economic Development to create the Development Services Department. The new combined department will support the work of the Economic Development Committee to establish the City of Orillia as a regional leader in economic development.
2) The merger of Parks and Recreation with the Culture Department and the removal of the Director of Culture position. The merger will result in closer cooperation of these areas and reduced costs.
3) The creation of a Facilities and Special Projects Department. This department will provide resources to support the City’s significant capital facilities program and implement best practices (asset management systems) in the management of our building portfolio.
4) The creation of a Corporate Services Department and the appointment of Ms. Gayle Jackson as Deputy CAO/City Clerk. This will bring together administrative departments into one unit and allow the deletion of the Deputy CAO/CFO position upon Mr. Ripley’s retirement.
5) The confirmation of Mr. Jim Lang as City Treasurer. Mr. Lang was appointed Interim Treasurer, pending this review.
The changes take effect immediately.
