City opens cooling centres to help residents beat the heat

For immediate release (July 15, 2013) – Due to the extreme temperatures, the City is opening three air-conditioned cooling and hydration centres for public use. The City encourages anyone - especially those susceptible to extreme heat – to make use of the centres, which will be open from now through to and including Friday, July 19, 2013.

The following public places have been identified as cooling and hydration centres:

Orillia City Centre
50 Andrew St. S.
Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Rotary Place
100 University Ave.
Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

 

Orillia Public Library
36 Mississaga St. W.
Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m

Splash Pads will also be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the following locations:

McKinnell Square Park
135 Dunedin St.

Clayt French Park
114 Atlantis Dr.

Victoria Park/ Memorial Park
75 Coldwater Rd. W.

Moose Beach at J.B. Tudhope
450 Atherley Rd.

City beaches will also offer extended hours of lifeguarding supervision at the following locations:

Couchiching Beach Park
12 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Moose Beach
12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
