For immediate release (September 9, 2014) – City Council ratified a decision at Monday’s Council meeting to waive landfill fees to accommodate the disposal of tree brush resulting from Friday’s storm.
“Hundreds of trees were damaged as a result of the storm,” said Mayor Angelo Orsi. “While City staff have worked diligently to clear debris and remove hazards, we want to make it just as easy for residents to do the same.”
Fees will be waived at the Waste Diversion Site for storm-related brush only, beginning on Saturday, September 6, up to and including Saturday, September 20. Trees and brush from private properties left at the roadside will not be picked up by City staff.
Residents and contractors working on behalf of residents who have used the landfill over the past few days to dispose of storm-related brush and tree wood have been encouraged to keep their receipts. Refunds can be requested with a receipt at the Waste Diversion Site until Monday, October 6, 2014. All requests must be reviewed prior to issuing a cheque. For further information, contact the Waste Diversion Site at 705-325-3522.
