Joint advisory with County of Simcoe, City of Orillia and City of Barrie

On April 26 between 2 and 6 p.m., the County and area partners, including member municipalities, the Cities of Barrie and Orillia, Georgian College, Lakehead University, Employment Ontario, the Simcoe Muskoka Workforce Development Board, Regional Tourism Organization 7 and the Province of Ontario, are collaborating on another virtual Work in Simcoe County job fair.

Data collected from the County of Simcoe’s www.workinsimcoecounty.ca website shows that in the month of February there were 9,684 active job openings in our region. The most in-demand skills were: sales and service occupations; trades; transport and equipment operation; business, finance and administration occupations; and occupations in education, law and social, community and government services.

The event will be hosted on an innovative, user-friendly platform where job seekers and employers can connect through one-on-one text chat, audio and video. The County and area partners have hosted several successful virtual job fairs during the COVID-19 pandemic to support local residents and businesses. Two events hosted in June and November 2021, connected 167 employers with 812 job seekers, with 2,101 conversations between employers and job seekers occurring during the live events.

Multiple sectors will be represented at the job fair, including employers in manufacturing and distribution, hospitality and tourism, healthcare and social assistance, construction and trades, and government and public administration.
